But a positive can-do attitude alone will not give you the success that you seek. And we all know people who were totally determined to stop smoking and soon fell off the wagon again. So you may well ask what else it takes to quit.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Stopping smoking is not as simple as deciding to change your habits. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to mankind. Some would say that it is more addictive than heroin. There are very good reasons for this. Nicotine is a drug that you can take and still function. As a matter of fact, until you figure out a good strategy of quitting, you can probably function even better on cigarettes. Whilst smoking, you can more easily concentrate on your work or study, you can be calm when you need calming and stimulated when you need stimulating, you can control your eating, you can relax and be sociable on social occasions, you can enjoy an alcoholic drink and remain in control, you can sleep more easily and awaken more cheerfully; no wonder so many people smoke! Smoking works, that is why you do it. However, now you have reached the stage where smoking is no longer a solution for you. Smoking has now become a problem.</p>
<p><span id="more-105"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So how do you prepare to stop smoking? With an open mind and a willing heart. Let me illustrate. An open mind does not mean saying that you want to quit smoking. An open mind involves acceptance that there are emotional reasons why a smoker smokes. A willing heart means the willingness to let go of these negative emotions that are holding you back.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There is a new technique called EFT which has the power to completely free you from these negative emotions. Once these are totally released from your system, you will have no desire to smoke whatsoever. But this presents some smokers with a challenge. When doing EFT, we sometimes, and only fleetingly, briefly feel an emotion as it finds its way out of our body. We may temporarily get tears or sadness, for example. And smoking is an addiction. And an addiction is a way of avoiding feeling uncomfortable emotions. So the first thing you need to prepare for is facing up to some discomfort. If you do choose to use EFT for quitting, this discomfort is very minimal.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As you may already know, if you want to accomplish something, you need to think it first. Our thoughts become our reality. So to prepare for quitting smoking, you need to stop thinking like an addict and start thinking like a non-addict. When you start thinking like a non-addict, you will start behaving like a non-addict and naturally become a non-addict. A non-addict will admit to negative emotions and find a way to get rid of them. Choose to be ready to let go. That is all the preparation you need. Really want it from the bottom of your heart. You can be pleasantly surprised how good you can feel as a true non-smoker.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">More more people are becoming free from addiction each day with EFT. You can learn EFT free online and do the tapping yourself. You can purchase a script, subscription or book for more specific guidance. Or you can engage the services of an experienced practitioner.</p>

You probably already know that hypnosis has a reputation for helping smokers become nonsmokers very quickly and without drugs, withdrawals and side effects. But did you know why hypnosis is so very effective? I will explain it very simply for you here.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Hypnosis is about communicating with the part of your mind that stores all of your feelings as well as habitual behaviors. That is your subconscious mind. Combine that with the fact that most people smoke either because of habit or because of emotions, and you can probably see how a tool that can access both of those parts of you can be so very effective.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Let me talk about your feelings for a moment. Feelings are a way of communicating things. In fact your subconscious tells you things with your feelings. That is one of the ways the subconscious communicates with you, through your feelings.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Take something like sadness, that is your subconscious telling you that you lost something or somebody. Maybe you are asking, so what good is that? Well, it is your subconscious mind looking to rectify the situation by nudging you along to go and find what it is that you lost or replace it. Because it is something that your subconscious has figured you must need. So it is a protective measure.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Now hypnosis, being that powerful agent for communicating with your subconscious, can go in there and change your feeling responses. The mistaken previous programming or outdated responses. That would be the programming that you mistakenly installed when you decided to become a smoker.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">How does that figure into the smoking habit? Well one example is, if you have been smoking for awhile, you probably have quite a number of emotions connected to smoking. Some you might be aware of and others that you are completely oblivious to. If you started smoking when you were a teenager and were hanging around with a bunch of friends that were also smoking, then you have connected all those good and exciting times of being a rebellious teen right along with smoking cigarettes. So every time you light up you get all those positive feelings along with the cigarette.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The good news is that you are not locked into those responses. And you can change them so that you feel differently when you light up. And you can use all those good feelings in a much more effective manner. The only thing that you are lacking is the knowledge of how to change. And that is because nobody ever taught you about your emotions. In fact you were probably told to avoid feeling a certain way. The typical response to a boy child crying is to grow up&#8230;become a man! And a girl child that gets angry is told that being angry is unladylike. What is that telling you? That your feelings mean nothing and you can control them with just your thoughts. Well that just is not so.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">How do smokers describe their favorite leisure? They say it&#8217;s nothing more than having the perfect pleasure, in a social way. Hollywood actress Michelle Pfeiffer even found smokers as the most interesting people at the dining table.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you&#8217;re a smoker, more than the pleasure that you get, you still know it&#8217;s harmful to your health. In fact the warning label in cigarette packs is so big you wouldn&#8217;t miss it. But would there be some ways to kick this habit?</p>
<p><span id="more-96"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">One survey was conducted in Europe where a majority said they can give up sex for weeks but not a stick of cigarette. Some even insist that extreme sports like sky diving or BASE jumping would be easier to do than to abstain from smoking?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It just goes on to show how addictive nicotine could be. However, if you ask some smokers, most of them would say they wanted to stop. They would stress concerns of their love ones and fear of serious lung diseases. They have the motivation but they can&#8217;t get it right.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Rationalizations in smoking</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It&#8217;s easy to emphasize that cigarette smoking has no health benefits for you. But why do many people still smoke? Most often they would give rationalizations.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Often they would say it&#8217;s their only way to relax and it helps them concentrate. Others would go further and say they want to hold a cigarette because they have nothing to do with their hands. I wonder if they have thought of holding a coin, a pencil or a paper clip.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Smokers give can give many reasons why they smoke but not enough rationale why they should not.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Motivations to quit</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Your motivation has to be important for you if ever you&#8217;ll succeed on quitting the smoking habit for good. Consider the savings that you will have for not having to buy two packs of cigarettes in day. Compute how much would this add and on how the money could have helped you bought other important things.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Think of how you would like to be around your children because you&#8217;ll be able to live longer. How about knowing someone who has been diagnosed of lung cancer? You can have these things in mind whenever your will power starts to dwindle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Find what works best</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You may need to have different strategies to deal with the craving. Not everything works so you have to list down all the possible ways to get around it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you&#8217;ve been used to light a cigarette after lunch, why not chew a gum or brush your teeth. Do something that breaks the ritual that you&#8217;re used to.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You can also try nicotine patches, prescription tablets, sprays, acupuncture or even a hypnosis CD. You need to find ways that will work best for you.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Reward yourself</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A great idea is to reward yourself from the money that you would have spent on the cigarettes. Get yourself a book, new clothes, new pair of shoes, an hour in the spa, a ticket for a concert, etc.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To quit in smoking is the hardest habit to change. You would have to commit yourself to it and recommit again and again for the relapse and craving would still be there. But it can be done. Just think of a healthier life that awaits you as soon you give up smoking.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Pick a day of personal significance. Many people pick New Years Day. This day has some significance to everyone because it is the beginning of a new calender year and many people pick this to start the year off on the right foot. Although it is no different from the last, it feels different. You don&#8217;t have to, nor should you, wait until the end of the year to quit. Pick something closer like a birthday, anniversary, or some other day special to you. Having this day will make your quit day seem more momentous and increase your chances of success.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">After you pick the day, take a piece of paper and write down all the reason you want to quit smoking. Make sure you include all of the health, family, financial, and other reason you have. Write as neat and clear as possible. Maybe dump something disgusting on them to make sure you don&#8217;t dig these items out the next day.</p>

You may find that your decision to quit smoking will rank as one of the most important, self empowering life changing decisions you have ever made.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">How severe the cravings you personally experience in the very near and distant future are, depends entirely upon what steps you&#8217;ve taken to address the psychological reasons that have kept you addicted to smoking. As you will learn, nicotine is not the cause of your addiction, nor is it the source of future cravings to take up smoking again.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Once you successfully eliminate nicotine from your body, which is a mere 72 hour process, any cravings or urges to smoke again that you experience from that point forward are related to psychological causes not to nicotine dependency.</p>

Try to think back upon the time when you first started smoking. What made you decide that you wanted to smoke? Rest assured, it wasn&#8217;t a need to fill your body with nicotine. You had a specific reason to experiment with smoking and why you believed smoking would be a pleasurable thing for you to do. That&#8217;s where you need to start looking for your root psychological cause.</p>

But they are meaningless unless you have something to compare it to. That is always what we do with information. We compare it to other things that we know or learn. And in that comparison we then make decisions on what to do. So I&#8217;ve included some important additional information for comparison.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Anxiety is the result of being in unfamiliar territory. You don&#8217;t know what to expect. Things that are familiar are safe. So this is just a distraction that causes a temporary loss of focus. This symptom doesn&#8217;t have to have an effect on you. I&#8217;ll tell you how to avoid it further down in this article.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I believe that insomnia results from loss of safety. When you&#8217;re not safe the protective part of you doesn&#8217;t allow you to sleep so that you can be ready for any dangers that might pop up. Your safety pacifier has been taken away and it might take a little bit of time to adjust. Only if you don&#8217;t know how to avoid this withdrawal effect completely, that is.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Restlessness. Now this is funny. Smokers are far more restless than other people. Every time you see a smoker you know you&#8217;re seeing a very nervous person. Someone who doesn&#8217;t know what to do with themselves when they want to relax, or be by themselves. If they aren&#8217;t being active, most likely they need a cigarette. So when they put away the cigarettes for good, all that restlessness comes out to play. It&#8217;s now time for them to learn what that feeling is from and how to take care of it.
