There has been a lot written about the side effects of quitting smoking. These side effects come about because when you quit smoking, your body goes through a process of detoxification. It is looking to get rid of all the poisons that you have been putting into your body from cigarette smoke for all your smoking years.

As you read through this article you will find out the side effects when you decide to quit smoking. But they are meaningless unless you have something to compare it to. That is always what we do with information. We compare it to other things that we know or learn. And in that comparison we then make decisions on what to do. So I’ve included some important additional information for comparison.

Some of the common nicotine withdrawal symptoms are:

* Irritability
* Anxiety
* Difficulty concentrating
* Insomnia
* Restlessness
* Increased appetite

Irritability – Have you ever watched a little baby fidget and then get cranky and then start to have a fit? What did mom do? As you watched her she gave the baby a pacifier and the baby calmed right down didn’t they?

Cigarettes have become your adult pacifier. And when that pacifier is taken away from you, you’ll probably become cranky too. It’s only a passing phase. Because you are an adult now you can use knowledge to eliminate that response totally. Those who use hypnosis to quit smoking usually don’t experience irritability because they’re feeling so happy to be free of cigarettes.

Anxiety is the result of being in unfamiliar territory. You don’t know what to expect. Things that are familiar are safe. And you can understand that when you’ve spent so long smoking, it’s become familiar and safe to you. The irony is that smoking isn’t safe at all. It’s like driving a car at 100 MPH. It’s just the illusion of safety that you’ve developed.

Difficulty concentrating is the result of nicotine leaving your body. The good news is that nicotine is leaving your body rapidly. And it’s as if there’s a little man inside of you jumping up and down yelling that nicotine supplies are running low and you need to replenish. So this is just a distraction that causes a temporary loss of focus. This symptom doesn’t have to have an effect on you. I’ll tell you how to avoid it further down in this article.

I believe that insomnia results from loss of safety. When you’re not safe the protective part of you doesn’t allow you to sleep so that you can be ready for any dangers that might pop up. Your safety pacifier has been taken away and it might take a little bit of time to adjust. Only if you don’t know how to avoid this withdrawal effect completely, that is.

Restlessness. Now this is funny. Smokers are far more restless than other people. Every time you see a smoker you know you’re seeing a very nervous person. Someone who doesn’t know what to do with themselves when they want to relax, or be by themselves. If they aren’t being active, most likely they need a cigarette. So when they put away the cigarettes for good, all that restlessness comes out to play. It’s now time for them to learn what that feeling is from and how to take care of it. And this too can be totally avoided and I’ll show you how in just a bit.

And finally we come to increased appetite. Nicotine is a stimulant. It speeds up metabolism, it suppresses appetite, it deadens the taste buds and your sense of smell. When you stop smoking you might also have a need to put something into your mouth. You can certainly find something other than food and tobacco to occupy your mouth can’t you?

All of these side effects can be avoided or lessened by using hypnosis to quit smoking. Because not everyone experiences withdrawal side effects when they quit. And if one of us can stop smoking without withdrawals then all of us can. And using hypnosis to quit smoking can help you to be free of smoking without withdrawals and side effects.

Now compare those minor withdrawal symptoms with one of the side effects of smoking. DEATH. Smoking causes:

* 90% of all lung cancer deaths in men
* 80% of all lung cancer deaths in women
* 90% of deaths from chronic obstructive lung disease

So next time you think about quitting and you’re dissuaded by the thought of withdrawal symptoms, start to think about the consequences of not quitting.

Here’s the way you can avoid the withdrawal symptoms I promised you. You probably know that hypnosis to quit smoking can help you avoid nicotine withdrawal altogether. I also mentioned comparison is why we store information in the first place. Using the comparison of smoking to not smoking is how you can avoid withdrawal from smoking. Hypnosis makes it quick and dramatic, but you can program yourself for success just by focusing on what you are gaining now that you’ve decided to quit and not on what you are losing.

And I invite you to learn how to use hypnosis to quit smoking for free. All the information you need to regain control is in my free ebook, stop smoking hypnotherapy. There are techniques that could help you to use self hypnosis to stop smoking on your own. It’s available at HypnoticState.com. It’s the same information that was published in the book I co-wrote, Real World Hypnosis, Insider Tips From Leading Hypnotists, that’s for sale on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other booksellers.

You hear on TV over and over again how hard it is to quit smoking naturally. These commercials are designed to make smokers afraid to quit smoking without Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).

The use of nicotine patches and gums took off after the 1988 U.S. Surgeon General’s report on Nicotine Addiction. Yet, few realize that this same report stated that 90% of smokers “spontaneously remit” from smoking and many have no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever.

Let’s face it, we all know smokers who’ve thrown the pack away and never smoked again. But science can’t explain this phenomena. “So instead, science focuses on NRT even though experts in the field admit that 93% of NRT users are back to smoking is 6 months!” *

I’ve interviewed hundreds of smokers. And very few have used NRT to successfully quit. Basically, here are the 5 most common ways that natural quitting occurs:

* Hitting bottom
* Some random event, well-spoken advice or challenge
* Sheer willpower
* Reading the right book or
* A complete change of mind about smoking itself (that makes quitting easy)

Basically, the #1 way smokers really quit is proper mindset. And it’s quite clear that once a smoker is mentally ready, nicotine addiction rarely stands in the way.

So, if you’re trying to quit, you have a powerful decision to make… you can continue to believe the “nicotine myth” or you can get mentally prepared and quit naturally. The success of millions proves that proper mindset is really how to stop smoking for the last time.

George Wissing is author of the book, “Stop Smoking for the Last Time”. He offers education, tools and free information on natural quitting on his website http://www.quit-smoking-made-easy.com.

Quitting cigarettes is one of the hardest things that a person can do. It takes a lot of willpower and determination. If you are serious about giving up cigarettes for good, you should look into the forms of help that you can find. You will be able to find many different aids that will help you to quit smoking. When you are trying to quit smoking it is important to learn how to beat the cravings.

One type of stop smoking aid is nicotine replacement therapy. You will find nicotine in cigarettes. This is an addictive substance. This is the reason that many people continue to smoke, even though they know how bad it is for them. This is also the reason that it is so hard to give cigarettes up. When you are using nicotine replacement therapy aids, you will be getting the nicotine from another source. You will be able to stop the act of smoking. This helps greatly when you are quitting.

You are most likely addicted to the act of smoking just as much as the actual nicotine. Your brain has been trained to enjoy this act. If you want to stop smoking you need to slowly reduce the amount of nicotine that is in your system. These aids will work by giving you a reduced amount of nicotine from an alternative source. You will not experience the same symptoms that you would if trying to quit “cold turkey.” These forms of aids are proven to help when quitting cigarettes. They include things like nicotine patches, nicotine gum and inhalers. These are all alternative sources for nicotine.

You can have laser therapy to quit smoking. This uses a technique that is based on acupuncture methods. Various points on the body are targeted with low level laser technology. This procedure is intended to increase the amount of endorphins that your body produces. This will help to alleviate the symptoms that you will experience when quitting cigarettes. This method of treatment is said to be effective against the withdrawal symptoms from quitting cigarettes.

Using the above mentioned products to quit smoking can be harmful to some people’s health. They are chemical products that are generally not very good for your system. There are some people who are not able to use these products because of various medical conditions. If you cannot use a nicotine replacement product you still have some options. There are many products which use natural ingredients. There are many herbal products out there which are designed to help you quit smoking without the use of harmful chemicals.

If you are looking for alternative quit smoking aids you should be sure that you look around. You should make sure that you do your research before you start using any form of alternative quit smoking aids. There are many products out there which are simply scams. If you are not sure about a certain method you should try asking your doctor for advice. They will be able to turn you in the right direction.

Her freelance activity made Hellen become a pretty active private health investigator. Five years ago she managed to motivate her husband to get rid of the nicotine addiction once and for all. He hasn’t smoked one single cigarette since then. Nowadays, Hellen writes for this stop smoking aids blog, providing useful self improvement and motivational advice for beginners, for all those people who are seeking a smoke free life.

If you are a smoker who wants to give up, and by that we mean quit smoking forever then you should go through quit smoking detox therapy. It is not pleasant and some people call it doing cold turkey, the same process as drug addicts go through.

Basically smoking can be classified as an addiction similar to that of drugs and drink. When you have been smoking for a while your body gets used to receiving regular doses of nicotine. When you stop supplying your body with nicotine shots you will get severe cravings and severe withdrawal symptoms that push you into wanting a cigarette. If you beat these it is almost guaranteed that you will quit smoking, but it is all up to you and how much you want to quit.

It is important that when you decide to quit smoking you do so completely. If you try and reduce gradually you are not quitting smoking you are just kidding yourself that you are. You need to grab the bull by the horns and do it, quit and start the detox process!

As soon as you stop smoking your body will begin the long process of recovery and the repair of some of the damage caused. Basically it takes 72 hours for the residual nicotine from your smoking, to leave your body. The cravings are therefore at their worst at this stage as your body wants you to top up the nicotine levels. If after 4 days you have managed to survive without a cigarette, you will feel the cravings gradually subsiding and the withdrawal symptoms reducing.

As the period of time without a cigarette gets longer you will increase your levels of energy, find breathing becoming easier, an improved taste in your mouth, clothes stop smelling of smoke, hair stops smelling of smoke and many more benefits will begin to show.

You must remember that in the early days it is so easy to fall back into old ways and start smoking again, if you feel the urge for a cigarette remember back to what you had to go through to get to where you are and also how much better you feel since you quit. Remember when quitting that you need the 100% support of friends and family and they will always be there to support you and help you carry on the good work if you feel the urge for a cigarette.

Quitting smoking is a necessity for all smokers if they want to live longer and healthier lives. Visit Quit Smoking Tips to get advice and help!

If you are a smoker, your body has been exposed repeatedly to the highly addictive substance nicotine. And the longer you have smoked, the more difficult it will be for your body to return to a healthier state without those frequent doses of nicotine. This is why most long-term smokers have an extremely hard time kicking the smoking habit. They are addicted to nicotine, and just as it would be with any drug addiction they will need plenty of time to detoxify their system to remove all traces of the substance. People who have recently stopped smoking are always faced with the temptation to have just one more smoke. This overpowering feeling is known as nicotine withdrawal. Withdrawal manifests in a number of ways, and everyone has a different experience with it. For some people, withdrawal causes the following problems:

* Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
* Constant feelings of nervousness and anxiety
* Lack of concentration
* Feelings of depression
* Irritability
* Powerful urges to light up a cigarette and enjoy a smoke
* Increased appetite

So before you actually take that last puff, have a clear understanding of what sorts of withdrawal symptoms you may face; if you don’t, you may relapse and need to go through the substance withdrawal process all over again. Know that those strong urges from the past may come back to haunt you after you’ve stopped smoking. If you know what can happen to you physically and emotionally, you’ll know how to deal with problems if they arise. A number of products are available to help you with nicotine withdrawal as you begin to cut back on your smoking.

You can buy nicotine patches and gums that are made to satisfy nicotine urges and should keep you from reaching for a cigarette. But keep in mind that if you do use products like these, at some point you’ll have to stop using them, too, in order to thoroughly clean out your system. And you can take prescription drugs to deal with the depression that can come on the heels of kicking an addiction. Some of these medications can help relieve other withdrawal symptoms as well as depression issues. Don’t take any of these drugs without talking to your doctor, so that you can get some professional advice for nicotine withdrawal. You may find that withdrawal symptoms emerge unexpectedly throughout the day. All you can do is wait until the feelings subside.

It takes tremendous willpower not to give in to such strong feelings. But after you’ve successfully fought off the urge to smoke several times, you’ll notice that the cravings become more diminished, and in time it will be much easier to stand up to these tendencies altogether. Your physical and mental toughness will be tested, because flushing nicotine from your body is a time-consuming process that you’ll simply have to endure. During your withdrawal period, it’s imperative that you remain strong and focused. Relapse cannot be an option, because it will mean you have just wasted a lot of your time and effort. If you fall back into the habit, you’ll end up on the starting line of withdrawal all over again. You can get involved with other activities that will divert your attention and take your mind off smoking if you get the urge. Remember why you quit in the first place, and hold close to those feelings. It won’t be easy to do what’s necessary to stop smoking for good, but ultimately it’s worth it.
